Recommended contact lens solutions

Almost all of the major contact lens manufacturers have their own contact lens solution that pairs best with their contact lenses. Below are recommendations of what solution to start with for each lens.

Recommended contact lens solution for MONTHLY soft contact lenses

Recommended contact lens solution for 2-WEEK soft contact lenses

  • Acuvue Oasys and Avaira Vitality – Biotrue or Opti-Free Puremoist

Note: You can also use Clear Care with all of the lenses listed above.

How to use Biotrue multi-purpose solution

This solution is only for SOFT contact lenses

  1. Place at least 3 drops of Biotrue multi-purpose solution on each side of lens surface and gently rub for 20 seconds.

  2. Thoroughly rinse each side of the lens for 5 seconds with Biotrue multi-purpose solution.

  3. Place cleaned contact lenses in the lens case and fill with fresh Biotrue multi-purpose solution.

  4. Soak for a minimum of 4 hours to effectively disinfect, clean & remove proteins.

Note: You may leave your lenses in an unopened case for up to 30 days. Also, it’s recommended to discard any remaining solution 3 months after first opening, although it’s rare to still have solution left after 1-2 months.

Opti-Free-PureMoist-Multi-Purpose-Soluti

How to use Opti-Free Puremoist multi-purpose solution

This solution is only for SOFT contact lenses

  1. Thoroughly wet each side of the lens with Opti-Free Puremoist solution and rub the lens for 20 seconds.

  2. Rinse each side of the lens for 10 seconds with Opti-Free Puremoist solution.

  3. Fill your clean case with fresh Opti-Free Puremoist solution.

  4. Soak for a minimum of 6 hours to effectively disinfect, clean & remove proteins.

Note: You may leave your lenses in an unopened case for up to 30 days. Also, it’s recommended to discard any remaining solution 6 months after first opening, although it’s rare to still have solution left after 1-2 months.

How to use Clear Care contact lens solution

This solution is both SOFT and HARD contact lenses

  1. Remove and place each lens into the appropriately marked Left and Right domed lens holder.

  2. Flip open the snap cap on the Clear Care bottle and bend it back and out of the way.

  3. Rinse the lenses while on the domed lens holder for 5 seconds.

  4. Fill the Clear Care lens case to the fill line with Clear Care solution and place the lens holder in the case.

  5. Tighten the cap on the Clear Care lens case and store lenses for at least 6 hours. Do not shake the case.

  6. After soaking for six hours, your lenses are ready to wear. No final saline rinse is necessary. Never rinse your lenses with Clear Care Cleaning & Disinfecting Solution prior to insertion or burning and stinging will result. If desired, lenses can be rinsed with sterile saline before inserting, such as Clear Care Rinse & Go.

Note: You may leave your lenses in an unopened case for up to 7 days. Also, it’s recommended to discard any remaining solution 3 months after first opening, although it’s rare to still have solution left after 1-2 months.

How to use Boston Simplus contact lens solution

This solution is only for HARD contact lenses

  1. Place your lenses in empty lens case and fill with fresh Boston Simplus Solution.

  2. Soak your lenses for at least 4 hours (or overnight) before wearing.

  3. After soaking, remove lenses from lens case and rub both sides of the lenses carefully with 4 drops of Boston Simplus Solution in the palm of your hand for 20 seconds.

  4. Rinse for approximately 5 seconds with a steady stream of Boston Simplus solution to eliminate loosened surface deposits and insert lenses.

  5. Discard solution from the lens case and immediately and thoroughly clean interior of lens case with fresh, sterile disinfecting solution.

Note: It’s recommended to discard any remaining solution 3 months after first opening, although it’s rare to still have solution left after 1-2 months.

How to use Boston Advance contact lens solution

This solution is only for HARD contact lenses

  1. Rub both sides of the lenses carefully with 2 to 4 drops of Boston Advance Cleaner in the palm of your hand for 20 seconds.

  2. Rinse each side of the lens thoroughly for at least 5 seconds or as needed to remove the cleaner with a saline solution indicated for the care of RGP contact lenses.

  3. Place lenses in an empty lens case and fill with fresh Boston Advance Conditioning Solution. Soak lenses for at least 4 hours before wearing.

  4. After removing lenses from the lens case, apply fresh conditioning solution to wet the lenses for additional cushioning, if desired, and insert.

  5. Discard solution from the lens case and immediately and thoroughly clean interior of lens case with a fresh, sterile disinfecting solution.

5 critical contact lens care tips

  1. Follow manufacturer cleaning and storage guidelines.

  2. Always wash your hands before and after handling your contact lenses.

  3. Never “top off” or reuse contact lens solution.

    • “Topping off” solution is when you add new solution to the existing (old) solution in your contact lens case.

  4. Don’t use or expose your lenses to water.

  5. Clean and dry case your case after each use (and replace it every time you purchase new solution).
