What is Community Eye Care?

Founded in 1998, Community Eye Care is one of the simplest vision care plans available. The company provides great customer service and easily explained insurance benefits so no one is confused about what is covered. In addition, Community Eye Care offers discounts on vision correction surgery (such as LASIK and PRK).

How do I locate a Community Eye Care provider?

Finding a Community Eye Care provider is easy! In fact, the company offers the largest national network of retail optical chains and has providers in all 50 states. This includes 27 of the nation’s premier optical retailers. If you prefer to see a provider in private practice, Community Eye Care has a large network of doctors in this setting as well.

To find a Community Eye Care provider, pull up the Community Eye Care Find a Provider to research providers in your area. There you can search by zip code, location, provider name, or practice name.

What if my provider is not in-network with Community Eye Care?

With Community Eye Care, you are able to see any provider you would like. However, if the provider is out-of-network, you may have to pay in full at the time of service then submit your claim on your own for reimbursement. Fortunately, all members still receive their full benefits under Community Eye Care's out-of-network policy.

Doctors located at (some) private practices are typically out-of-network with Community Eye Care.

How much does Community Eye Care typically cost?

Unfortunately, Community Eye Care is only available through employers, associations, and health plans. As a result, individuals plans are not available.

With this in mind, member cost varies depending on the package your employer, association, or health plan is associated with.

What does Community Eye Care cover?

According to Community Eye Care, their members can save up to 70% on routine eye care. As with other vision insurances, you will have exam copays ranging from $0-$25 for a comprehensive eye exam. If you wear contact lenses, you may have an additional evaluation fee of up to $25.

When it comes to material benefits for glasses or contact lenses, Community Eye Care's coverage is simple and easy to understand. In fact, they provide members with a dollar allowance that can be used directly toward glasses (i.e. frames and lenses), contact lenses, sunglasses, or special lens options. Furthermore, the company has partnered with Coastal so you can purchase products online.

For example, a standard plan may have a total material allowance of $150. Therefore, if a pair of glasses with lenses cost $150, your out of pocket cost would be $0.

Lastly, Community Eye Care plan renews every 12 months.

Are medically necessary contacts for dry eye or keratoconus covered by Community Eye Care?

The Community Eye Care allowance provided for frames, lenses, and contact lenses can also be used towards medically necessary contact lenses (i.e. scleral, hybrid, or RGP lenses).

In most cases, this allowance does not cover the full cost of a medically necessary contact lens evaluation and materials.

Does Community Eye Care cover diabetic eye exams?

No. Community Eye Care provides comprehensive eye exams, however, diabetic eye exams are not included. With this in mind, medical insurance can be used for a comprehensive diabetic eye exam.

Does Community Eye Care cover refractive surgery (LASIK or PRK)?

No. However, Community Eye Care has partnered with TLC Laser Eye Centers to offer it's members $900 off LASIK! This is simply an additional discount you receive as a Community Eye Care member.

Conclusion

In the end, taking care of your eye health and wellness should be at the top of your health priority list! With its large provider network, exceptional coverage, and extensive member resources, Community Eye Care vision insurance is one of the simplest vision insurances on the market.
